One of the most troubling parts of a divorce for parents is the concern that somehow their relationship with their children will be damaged. It may be difficult to imagine what your life and their lives will be like without having access to each other at all times. Securing and preserving the quality of your relationship with your children is the most important aspect of your divorce.
At Bain, Files, Jarrett & Harrison, our Tyler visitation and access issues attorneys have been helping individuals and families preserve the quality of parent child relationships after divorce since 1976. Reaching Agreement to Avoid the Standard Possession Order
It is advisable that parents work together to create an agreement that will allow both parents to have appropriate access to the children. The parties can establish one parent as the custodial parent and arrange a visitation schedule for the non-custodial parent. The agreement may be that both parents share equal time with the children. Being able to craft a working flexible agreement that will be approved by the court is beneficial in a number of ways, including that it keeps the decisions in your own hands as opposed to having the decision fall solely to the court. And the agreement can include supervised visitation or any other particular condition that will work best for your situation.
If an agreement cannot be reached, the court may well impose the Standard Possession Order. This order is supposed to be a one-size-fits-all solution, but it doesn’t always work for a family. At our firm, we believe that every child and every family’s needs are unique and that the best option is the construction of an agreement on visitation that is tailored to meet those needs.
